BAROQUE ENCOUNTER TRIO

WORKSHOPS

Tudor Workshop

The session opens with a professional performance of Tudor music by Baroque Encounter for the participating class(es).  The audience then participates in our interactive workshops for all students (voices and instruments) – teachers are welcome to join in too.  The pupils are encouraged and coached to create soundscape pieces evoking specific elements of Tudor life.  The session culminates in a final performance by the students and Baroque Encounter for the rest of the school.

"I liked Baroque Encounter because everybody was counted in.  Nobody was left out.  We all got to perform in front of everyone."

TIMINGS FOR A TUDOR WORKSHOP

An example of a session's layout is as follows

09.15 A short performance by Baroque Encounter introduces the session to pupils.
09.45 Workshop.  Pupils divided into 'orchestra' and 'choir' to devise and rehearse the elements of the final performance.
10.45 - Break -
11.00 Groups reunited to rehearse together.
11.30 Final performance by Baroque Encounter and students to whole school.
12.15 End

"What a magical morning!  Baroque Encounter successfully made the music and sounds of Tudor England 'come alive' to the children by presenting repertoire that was both exciting and accessible.  The well-presented and researched interactive workshop enhanced the children's understanding of the Tudors, and put their learning from the classroom into context.  Every child was involved, and the skills and talents of our more accomplished musicians were recognised and incorporated into the morning's work.  The children were thrilled to see 'real' period instruments and it was a musical treat for them to listen to such inspirational, professional musicians.  The way that the learning was cleverly woven together in order to create a performance opportunity at the end of the morning to the rest of the school made the workshop even more special."

Handel's London - A Musical Snapshot

First devised for the 2010 Dulwich Festival, Baroque Encounter Trio also offers a shorter (approx 1.5 hours) workshop for children and accompanying adults exploring the sound world of Georgian London.

With the participants' own instruments, their voices and a selection of percussion instruments we help re-create our own version of Handel's Water Music with a taste of Georgian London's street life along the way.

Perfect before an all-ages recital!
